Big Blue specializes in a small group and private
dive service that caters to all experience levels
and diving interests.
The main dive boat, a 40ft power catamaran,
departs daily at 8.30am for 2 dives with a maximum
of 9 guests. This and other private charter
vessels are available for both dedicated dive
trips and aquatic adventures when diving is
just part of a day's activities. All the boats
are set-up as professional dive platforms and
all the Big Blue staff are experienced captains
and dive crew. Night dives and 1-tank dives
are regularly scheduled. Big Blue is rebreather
and technical diving friendly.
Philosophy
Above all there is no rush and no afternoon
dive that the boat must get back for. Big Blue
does not dictate dive time or profiles. Big
Blue wants divers to maximize their underwater
experience and believes this is best achieved
if certified divers can confidently and safely
explore the reefs and walls of the Turks and
Caicos without total reliance on the dive guide.
Safety
Therefore, dive computers are complimentary,
thorough briefings are given, and maps are drawn
of the dive sites. An instructor is always in
the water and private guides are available if
divers would like individual guidance and instruction.
Surface markers and dive alerts are also provided
free of charge so divers can feel comfortable
venturing off on their own. Nitrox is available.
Dive
sites
Big Blue's location at the Leeward Marina at
the east end of Providenciales makes it possible
to conveniently access all the diving areas
around the islands. Every dive trip departs
from and returns to this base and the sites
range from 5 to 60 minutes away. Big Blue's
dive staff and boat captains monitor the tides
and weather in order to choose the best and
most suitable dive location each day. There
is no set schedule and factors such as where
divers have already been and the ability of
the divers are taken into account when deciding
where to go. Return time is generally between
1.30 and 3.00pm.
Refreshments
An array of healthy snacks and a full lunch
is provided on the daily dive boat. Hot and
cold drinks are also available.
Education
Beginner "try" dives are conducted
in small groups or as part of a private day-out.
Advanced "try" dives are also offered
to those who have been before and are comfortable
and proficient in the water. Full certification
courses are
also offered and certified divers are encouraged
to continue learning and improving their skills.
Dive specialties courses such as underwater
photography, marine life identification, and
Nitrox are available. Technical diving instruction,
including closed-circuit rebreathers and tri-mix
is also at hand.
Small
groups
The real secret to Big Blue's success comes
from the firmly held belief in the intrinsic
value and optimum safety behind small group
diving. Not only does this priceless and commonly
overstated practice minimize the pressure on
the reef, but it also makes real relaxed diving
both an uncommon reality and a distinct pleasure.
